Evanescence is coming to Canada just two days after its new CD goes on sale.

The band will kick off the North American tour with shows at Toronto’s Kool Haus on Oct. 5 and Montreal’s Metropolis on Oct. 6. The first tour since 2004, it will focus on small venues.

Singer Amy Lee said fans can expect to hear mostly the new material.

Bass player William Boyd, who quit the group to spend more time with his family, has been replaced by former Revolution Smile guitarist Tim McCord.

Evanescence’s second full-length CD, entitled The Open Door, goes on sale Oct. 3. The quartet’s debut, 2003’s Fallen, went six times platinum.

With the release of their new album The Open Door just around the corner, Evanescence have lined up 17 theater gigs that will constitute the first leg of their world tour.

The initial North American run will kick off in Toronto on October 5 — two days after The Open Door lands in stores — with dates scheduled through October 29 in San Francisco. Evanescence then plan on heading across the pond for a brief run of European shows, after which they'll return to the States before year's end to play in larger arenas.

Frontwoman Amy Lee said the band's set will be filled with the new material, with a handful of older tracks thrown in for kicks. "It's been two years since we stopped touring," Lee said. "So it's been awhile, and I'm a little nervous, but I'm mostly just excited. By the end of touring the last time, we were just dying to write more songs and play some new material. New York --- Evanescence has announced an on-sale date of August 19 for tickets to the upcoming first leg of its world tour.
